I just want to give back – here’s what finally worked for me to get rid of our myterious skin condition after years of trying everything. I think I had that problem for around ten years.
Hello everyone,
I’ve been reading posts in this forum for some.time, and today I finally want to contribute something, because I know how desperate and lost you can feel when nothing works. I just want everyone who is still struggling to know what helped me – completely and 100%.
For years I suffered from the yellow rashes that nobody could really explain. I live in Germany. I also have no spleen, which makes my immune system a special case. I tried so many things:
– Aknemycin
– Lotriderm
– Clotrimazol
– And eventually Soolantra, (which many people here swear by
Nothing worked. Not a single one of these gave me lasting relief.
Then my doctor prescribed Oraycea for three months.
I cannot overstate what a difference it made. After those three months, my skin cleared up completely. Today I have absolutely nothing left. No spots and outbreaks whatsoever. It genuinely changed my life.
I’m not a doctor, and I know everyone’s situation is different, especially if you have an underlying condition or a compromised immune system like me. Please always speak with your doctor before trying anything new. But I wanted to share my experience because I spent so long feeling alone with this problem, skimming the internet at 2am hoping someone had an answer.
Someone did, eventually. I hope this helps at least one of you.
Wishing you all healthy skin and better days ahead.
Yes, it’s Doxycycline monohydrate. I remember the doctor saying, it can get worse before it gets better. I used it for three months in total. How long did you take it for?
Fair enough. I’m not a doctor and don’t know if there are any differences between Oraycea to what you were taking. It has done the trick for me and maybe it will do the same for others.
Are you sure that your condition was the same as many on this site have resolved using Soolantra? How long did you use Soolantra and what happened? I also used Doxycycline for nearly a year and it was not effective.
Thanks for the information. Congratulations!!! I’m so pleased you’ve found some relief. Are you continuing with the Oraycea or is your treatment completed? Please let us know how you get on.
I should add that 2 weeks is quite a short time to determine whether Soolantra is effective. It was nearly 4 weeks after I started my Soolantra treatment (in 2016) when I started to see some obviously positive results (no oozing) and 7 weeks when I stopped getting outbreaks. I did notice a change at day 8 of treatment but the lesions actually got more frequent, bigger and more itchy. What size was the tube you used? I purchase a 60g tube and it lasts over a year. Mind you, these days I use every other day and sometimes go 2-3 days between use. I still get the occasional minor papule but no oozing and they don’t cause me much bother. In the past, I have also taken complete breaks from Soolantra treatment for up to 3 months but I notice that the papules do become more frequent after that length of time. So now, I apply small amounts of Soolantra every other day. I also need to apply sunblock when the sun is out as my skin has become very sensitive to the sun and I was getting sunburn. This may be as a result of the treatment.
In December last year, I went to see a dermatologist because of skin cancer concerns. He said that demodex mites was the cause of the oozing papule condition (he was familiar with the oozing and says it is a progressive symptom as a result of Rosacea) and that I should continue with the Soolantra (actually, it’s called Rosiver here in Canada). I had several spots of actinic keratosis on my forehead, scalp and upper body that he froze. This is due to high sun exposure in my childhood (grew up in South Africa) and not the Soolantra treatment. Now he wants to see me every 7 months to review things.
My treatment with Oraycea finished more than a year ago. The doctor said it might be necessary to start it again at some point, but so far I’ve been lucky. He also connected everything to Rosacea.
Overall, I still don’t have perfect skin — there’s always something going on — but it has improved incredibly, and the yellow spots are entirely gone.
In my experience, the yellow spots often announce themselves through a very particular itch. Almost like you can tell yourself: this is not a regular itch — this is probably going to lead to a yellow outbreak.
What happens to me sometimes these days is that I still get this particular itch for maybe half a day, but without the actual outbreak. These days I’m pretty much using regular skincare products — some Korean ones — and I can apply almost everything I want.
Should it ever come back, I’ll obviously get another course of Oraycea. But fingers crossed.
I also had seb derm in the past and more recently angular cheilitis or something similar. The Soolantra seems to help with all of these conditions. Possibly demodex mites are causing these issues. What I’d love to know is why demodex causes issues for me but not for most people. I think it may be related to gut health. I do occasionally suffer from some IBS type of issues so it’s possible.
